No one really knows where the Merdrae came from but some scholars think they were actually originally aquatic creatures who then evolved in to amphibious humanoids due to the death and rebirth of Sernos. When Sernos died, magical energy was shut off to the world until Sernos was reborn, at which point magical energy flooded the world, burst crashing through mountain, burning whole planes and affecting all life on Edos.
They believe the merdrae were hit by great bursts of it and subsequently began evolving in to what they now know as Merdrae.
The Merdrae themselves do not care how they came to be, so any records of what may have happened thousands of years ago are simply non existant.
